Home Design Choices We Want To See In 2026

A new year evokes a sense of renewal and offers a moment to reflect on the possibilities that lie ahead. It is also the time people like to predict what will be the hot new thing of the year, but we’re doing things a bit differently. Instead of anticipating what will be big in home renovations this year, our designers have created a wishlist of design choices they’re yearning to see more of in the coming year. It’s our hope that 2026 will be the year of leaning into comfort, embracing nostalgia, and choosing practicality over trends.. Keep reading to learn our 2026 home design wishlist!

Spaces Designed Around Real Routines

In 2026, we hope to see clients continue prioritizing how they truly live in their homes. Thoughtful floor plans that respond to daily routines, whether it is morning flow, work-from-home needs, entertaining, or downtime, create spaces that feel intuitive and comfortable. When design decisions are rooted in real life rather than trends or excess square footage, homes are more functional, enduring, and enjoyable to live in.

Living Finishes

We love seeing more appreciation for materials that age gracefully, and we’re leaning in – think stained woods over painted, softer stones instead of quartz, and unlacquered metals that patina. While we understand the desire for a “forever new” look, we believe that showing wear is a sign of love. We want our spaces to grow and evolve in tandem with the people who inhabit them.

Warmer Hues

Regardless of what the “color of the year” might be, we’re seeing a shift away from sterile whites and grays toward base tones with real soul. Bringing in hints of pink and yellow creates a sense of nostalgia and coziness that people crave, making a house feel less like a showroom and more like a home.

A Return to Defined, Flexible Rooms

We’re seeing a shift toward homes that embrace more separation with a cozier, more intimate feel, and we’re here for it. While open concepts still have their place, we’re excited by the renewed interest in spaces that can close off when needed. Pocket doors, cased openings, libraries, dens, and flexible bonus rooms allow homes to adapt over time, offering privacy and quiet without sacrificing overall flow.

Whole-Home Cohesion

A home should tell a story, but not feel like a collection of unrelated chapters. We love carrying similar accents and finishes throughout to create a sense of flow. Even if you aren’t undertaking a full-home remodel, simple updates to hardware, plumbing, lighting, or paint throughout can bridge the gap between spaces without breaking the budget, while still maintaining your personal style.

At the end of the day, when it comes to your own home, the priority should always be your style. Your home is an investment, not something you can reinvent each year, so take the time to think and research before making any major decisions. When remodeling or redecorating your space, we’ll ensure your design makes you feel comfortable and transforms your house into your unique sanctuary.
