ADDITION

This Newburyport home was in the perfect location for a young family, but despite being a large house, the primary suite lacked space. The solution: build an addition to give our clients the extra room and amenities they desire. To bring our client’s vision to life, we added roughly 687 square footage onto the back of their home, expanding their basement and first floor. The addition on the first floor includes a new primary suite with a bathroom, walk-in closet, dressing room, and separate powder room. In the basement, we added a guest suite/office space with a 3/4 bathroom.

By moving the primary suite to the addition and capitalizing on some existing space, our clients now have roughly 500 square feet of privacy. The suite includes a bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closet, and dressing area. The bathroom features a custom double vanity with plenty of drawers and a built-in shelf for storage, a modern soaking tub, a walk-in shower with a linear drain, and a water closet. In the bedroom, the vaulted ceiling and abundance of windows make the space feel open and airy.

One paramount goal was to ensure the new spaces matched our client’s style. The transitional design aims to create a balanced and harmonious interior that combines the timeless appeal of classic elegance with the clean lines and simplicity of modern aesthetics. In transitional design, the focus often lies on a neutral color palette, creating a calming and sophisticated atmosphere. While the decor is essential, this style lets the furniture and textures do the talking. Furniture with classic shapes, modern finishes, and a mix of textures are standard features in transitional design.

To guarantee our clients had cabinetry that fit their needs, we used a fully tailored design in their primary bathroom, powder room, and primary suite office space. As the only public-use bathroom on the first floor, our clients’ young children would primarily use the new powder room, so we had to consider little ones’ needs while designing the space. Rather than relying on an unsightly step stool, we integrated a pull-out stool at the vanity’s base for the kids, which retracts into the vanity when unused.
