Federalist

REMODEL

Our client’s Federalist-style home was in the perfect location but needed more functionality and clashed with our client’s aesthetic. To modernize the 1990s design, we gutted the kitchen and primary bathroom and followed our client’s vision. In the kitchen, we removed two cased openings for a more open-concept design and the sunken dining area to allow for more space to cook and dine. Upstairs, we maintained the original floor plan of the primary bathroom but updated the layout for optimal flow with a contemporary, aesthetically pleasing design.

FORM + FUNCTION

The original kitchen featured a small butler’s pantry; however, it lacked sufficient storage and reduced the required size of the home’s eatery. We improved functionality within the kitchen, relocating the sink, stove, and fridge, and added more space by eliminating the pantry and integrating custom storage solutions inside the cabinetry. Custom inserts include a pull-out cleaning supply cabinet with built-in outlets, a two-tiered utensil drawer next to the range, a spice rack drawer, and an appliance garage that incorporates a removal internal panel to pass food and tableware back and forth from the kitchen to the dining room. Other features like the pot filler, workstation sink, and recessed under-shelf lighting help make daily chores and cooking a breeze.

CLIENT-DRIVEN DESIGN

While we always incorporate a collaborative design process with our clients, the owners of this project knew their design style and executed it as flawlessly as a well-trained interior designer. The kitchen features both soapstone and quartzite countertops, an ornamental backsplash behind the designer range, European-inspired, aged brass fixtures, and satin-finished Farrow & Ball French Gray door and drawer fronts to contrast the stained, white oak island. Upstairs, the primary bathroom features a painted clawfoot tub, a large shower with a waterfall quartz bench, and a double white oak vanity, all surrounded by high-end Morris & Co. wallpaper above decorative tile wainscoting.

EUROPEAN TRANSITIONAL

The transitional design style incorporates traditional elegance while introducing modern lines and angles. In this case, the kitchen and bathroom feature a classic European vibe, incorporating timeless fixtures and finishes with superior, modern-day craftsmanship. This style is apparent throughout the kitchen and bathroom, including a deep work sink accompanied by a British-inspired bridge faucet, the French-crafted Lacanche range, decorative oak range hood, designer French bateau clawfoot tub, and a smart toilet with an integrated bidet.
