Ranch
REMODEL
Our clients loved their downtown Newburyport home, but as a young family of four, they were rapidly outgrowing their one-story ranch. They wanted more space to live comfortably and to update the 1970s home to reflect their design style. Rather than adding an addition to create their dream home, we reconfigured the layout of the existing space for improved flow and functionality, including a new private primary suite, a larger kitchen with ample storage, and an open-concept living room.

IMPROVED FUNCTIONALITY
The layout of the original house was awkward and cramped. The ranch included two living rooms, a condensed kitchen and dining area, one full bathroom, and three small bedrooms with insufficient sound insulation. We completely redesigned the home’s flow to create a home that gave both adults and children the space and privacy they desired. The new primary suite, now in one of the former living rooms, features a bedroom, bathroom, walk-in closet, and laundry space. The kitchen was updated and relocated to provide adequate room to prep, cook, enjoy, and ample storage. By eliminating a few interior walls and doors, the home now features open sight lines from the kitchen to the living room to supervise the little ones.
FAMILY FRIENDLY
One of our client’s biggest concerns was ensuring the bedrooms were a quiet oasis for them and their children. With a ranch-style home, this can be challenging. To combat this issue, we installed commercial-grade soundproofing and a hallway door separating the guest rooms from the primary suite and kitchen.
MODERN COASTAL
Modern coastal design features a neutral color palette, usually focusing on crisp whites, greys, and natural tones. It also incorporates natural materials like pale-toned woods, stucco, and glass, emphasizing open spaces, natural light, and uncluttered interiors. Modern coastal elements were paramount during the renovation. Such components include new full-light windows, shiplap ceilings and trim, a stucco fireplace, white oak hardwood, and pops of greys and blues peppered throughout the neutral household.
