Double Bath
REFRESH
The upstairs bathrooms in this 1800s Newburyport home were outdated and lacked functionality for a family of four. The primary bathroom’s layout was awkward and didn’t flow well, while the children’s bathroom lacked adequate storage space. Plus, the 1980s design was outdated and clashed with the rest of the home. We reimagined both rooms in a modern, transitional style that worked for our clients’ needs, including more storage space, double vanities, a large walk-in primary bath shower, and, as a bonus, a new upstairs laundry room.

1. LARGE FORMAT SHOWER WALLS
2. LINEAR DRAIN
3. ADDITIONAL STORAGE SPACE
4. RADIANT HEAT FLOORING
5. POCKET DOOR TO OPTIMIZE SPACE
OPTIMIZED LAYOUT
While the previous primary bathroom was quite large, there was a lot of wasted space. We optimized the room’s layout for added functionality by removing the oversized jet tub and reconfiguring the vanity, shower, and toilet locations. We then added a dividing partition wall to provide additional space for an upstairs laundry room. In the children’s bathroom, the single vanity became a double to give both of their young girls the space they needed.
TRANSITIONAL DESIGN
Transitional design is a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary styles. This style aims to create a balanced and harmonious interior that combines the timeless appeal of classic elegance with the clean lines and simplicity of modern aesthetics. In transitional design, the focus often lies on a neutral color palette, creating a calming and sophisticated atmosphere.
UPGRADED LAUNDRY SPACE
One of our clients’ remodeling must-haves was building an upstairs laundry room. The original laundry room was on the first floor, meaning our clients had to walk up and down a flight of stairs to clean their clothes. To simplify their daily lives, we designated part of the original primary bathroom square footage for a laundry room. The new laundry room design includes a stackable washer and dryer, a countertop for folding with space for baskets underneath, and a built-in rack for drying, all conveniently located right off their primary bedroom.
